Mount Kenya Farm is the ideal holiday base for safari, trekking or to climb Mount Kenya.  Our aim is to provide affordable self catering or catered accommodation in a lovely safari countryside at 7100ft and 2km south of the equator.  Elevated position provides an unusual micro-climate that is highly agreeable for safari.  By day the sun is hot, but because of the elevation the air is cool and there is often a light breeze.  Ideal for safari, trekking, to climb or just for a relaxing holiday.  At night the temperature drops and it is time to return from safari and light the living room fire, though it never becomes disagreeably cold.  During the rainy season this constant bliss is interrupted by heavy and dramatic thunderstorms, and this can be one of the most interesting times to holiday or even safari!.  The closest town is Nanyuki – a pleasant market and trading community 3km north.

Mount Kenya Farm is a perfect base for climbing Mount Kenya - and we can arrange a guide and porters for you and all gear rentals.  It is also very well positioned for exploring Mount Kenya National Forest. For safari, the Aberdare and Samburu National Parks and Lake Berengo - probably the finest bird-watching safari in the world are all within exploring distance.  It is also good country for fly fishing and excellent for mountain biking safari.  We will be happy to advise and assist you in arranging any or all of these activities and proving equipment rentals.

Please note, however, that the farm is entirely powered by wind and solar energy and the staff are local people.  This is reflected in the cost.  You will receive a good welcome but you need to be prepared for living with natural power which can go down on your hot water and occasionally electric supply.  Should this happen, staff will boil water for your needs on the open fire.  Please also be aware that any transactions for food or other servises must be made directly with the staff.  As always in East Africa, you need to be aware of negotiating!
